Until there's enough snow on the ground to ski without making rock boards I'd like to get as much riding in as possible. For us in Bozeman that generally means Pipestone. To ensure enough time to ride, let's plan to be on the bikes at 10am, meanin...

I've ridden Sheepshead. It was great. It felt like wilderness. Warm springs ridge is my favorite in the area.

according to the map of proposed Wilderness, it will be on either side of the main trail. Somehow, I'm sure the FS will cut it off to bikes anyway.

Sheephead and Blue Joint are about 45 minutes from Hamilton, so about 1.5 hours from Missoula. The main places to ski up the West Fork are Trapper Pk and Boulder Mtn which are a few trailheads farther east. Blodgett Canyon is just outside Hamilton...

How long a drive are these places you've mention here and in your previous post from Missoula? Everything on that east side is headed for Wilderness if that law passes, right?

    November in Central Montana

October's snow dumps ended riding in the high elevations for this year but the mild temps and only small snow storms since then made for lots of riding opportunities. Here are some shots from the South Shore Rivers Edge, Eastern Little Belts, Judith Mountains and The Missouri River Breaks. Those who haven't been on the South Shore rivers edge trail in Great Falls lately need to check it out. The locals have done tons of work and its a really fun trail.

    Riding around Bozeman

With the nice weather we've been having the snow from two weeks ago has been melting and the trails drying out. Yesterday Greg, Sam, Casey and a bunch of others went to Pipestone for a great ride. Everything we rode was either dry and firm or slightly moist, with only the occasional muddy spot or soft sandy section. We took the loop that drops down below the tracks and climbs to about 6500 feet before going above the quarry and back to the tracks. Sublime.

This afternoon I went up to Leverich a… Continue

    Sheephead Trail

Nestled on the east side of Nez Perce Pass at the end of the West Fork of the Bitterroot offers a chance to experience the remote backcountry of the surrounding Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness which borders the area on three sides. When combined with trails #12 and #16, an epic day of solitude awaits, and encounter with a wolf is more likely than a person.

    Blue Joint Recommended Wilderness

The Blue Joint recommended wilderness is compromised of 28,500 acres adjoining the Frank Church- River of No Return and the Selway- Bitterroot Wilderness Areas.

Several riding options are available in the area. The Blue Joint Trail (#614) serves as an ideal introduction to backcountry mountain biking with a beautiful meadow about 8 miles in. More advanced riding all days loops can be accomplished by combining the Blue Joint Trail with Jack the Ripper (#137) and Castle Rock(#627) or with Little B… Continue
