Montana Mountain Bike

Mountain Bikes. Montana. It doesn't get any better.

With the nice weather we've been having the snow from two weeks ago has been melting and the trails drying out. Yesterday Greg, Sam, Casey and a bunch of others went to Pipestone for a great ride. Everything we rode was either dry and firm or slightly moist, with only the occasional muddy spot or soft sandy section. We took the loop that drops down below the tracks and climbs to about 6500 feet before going above the quarry and back to the tracks. Sublime.

This afternoon I went up to Leverich after seeing one of John P's pictures on Facebook. It too is dry and firm with minimal snow and mud. The snowy sections are limited to a few shady spots at the top and are easily rideable. The downhill is mostly dry or moist enough to be tacky- in other words, perfect. Well, except for the braking ruts leading into the turns and the shoddy launch ramp off the fallen tree near the top. If we get any light rain or snow- enough to make the trail a little soft we should try to get up there to ride it- this trail needs some good wear more than anything else.

Tomorrow night a few of us are going to South Cottonwood on a night ride if anyone is interested. Just send me an email: bozeman.bike AT gmail DOT com.
